Rome is known as the Eternal city and the places to take photographs can be eternally overwhelming (in a good way). One of my favorite things to do as a photographer in major tourist cities is to wake up for sunrise. The city can be absolutely beautiful in the morning and you have the advantage of beating all the crowds! You can get some iconic shots without all the tourists and enjoy the scenery in peace.
I wanted to share what I think is the best spot for sunrise in Rome. The location is an overlook of the Roman Forum. Not actually in the Forum itself it’s just on top with a nice view point.
How do you get there?
The best way to get there is to go to Campidoglio. Walk up the stairs and off to the right behind the main building. There will be a small walkway leading down to a view point.
Enjoy the location! It’s a great view of the ancient city and perfect for sunrise! Check out some of my behind the scene photos and timelapse below
