This week I went to Estuary Living apartments to shoot a timelapse video for the apartments. The luxury apartments are located right in front of the NYC skyline in Weehawken, NJ. The location is a gem for sure with easy access to parks and viewpoints with a 2 minute walk!
I decided to go out to the pier in front of the apartments and shoot a day to night sunset video. There are a few constructions active which have some cool buildings. The buildings were reflecting the sun when I got there so I wanted to shoot the sunset going down with the reflections.
I set up my Nikon D850 with my 15-30 mm f/2.8 wide angle Tamron lens. I zoomed in at 30 mm which is great for the timelapse because it allows me to zoom in post-processing to what I want since the camera has such high resolution.
I put my camera in aperture priority at ISO 64 and f/22. The first images were at 1/20 of a second and then the camera adjusts itself as the light changes. The reflections were awesome going back and forth on the buildings! There was also some activity with the construction which looks pretty cool on the timelapse.
By the end of the video I had changed my settings to ISO 200 and f/8. I was using a 6 second interval so I was trying to limit my exposure.
Make sure to check out the full video below and Estuary Living apartments! The sunset turned out awesome!
