Mexico – Yucatan Peninsula Day 1 – Chichen Itza at Night

Yesterday started my trip to Mexico! I am visiting the Yucatan Peninsula. I landed in Cancun and I’m travelling to Merida over the next few days. The first thing I did after landing in Cancun was of course eat Mexican food!

I’m not staying in Cancun since I’m travelling with my family to Merida but we stayed the night in Valladolid which is really close to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza

The Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza have a night show which is absolutely stunning. The park opens at 8 PM and for about an hour you walk around the ruins which are lit up. At 9pm there is seating in front of the ruins for a half hour light show of the main pyramid. The light show goes through the Mayan history and the Chichen Itza site. I set up my camera in the front row. There are no tripods allowed on site so make sure you have a holder for the camera.

This video I took of Chichen Itza was from the backside before the show. The video shows the stars. I used my bag to hold the camera at ISO 2400 and f/2.8 with a 1 second shutter speed at a 2 second interval. I shot this video for 8 minutes. Longer would have been nicer but I like how it turned out! The Nikon D850 was for sure a great camera for this situation!
